Worth the Wake

5. Sunrise – Zepheera enjoys something beautiful for once

AU: Donna AU of BTaS (the Doctor rescues Zepheera while Donna is traveling with him)

Warm, gentle pressure at Zepheera’s back brought her to the waking world. She nearly batted at the finger prodding at her when the Doctor whispered, “C’mon, wake up. It’s happening.”

That was enough encouragement for Zepheera. They’d spent the night out here, under an alien sky, because it was one of the simple pleasures that had never been available to the borrower. She was either too busy worrying about her survival or that of her people, or was stuck in a cage in a windowless room. Here she had friends who were concerned for her recovery, invested in her interests, and more than willing to be her safe place to fall.

Sitting up, Zepheera rubbed her eyes and looked around. Donna was still fast asleep in her own spot, and the sky above was becoming lighter by the second.

The Doctor’s hand shifted to form a platform near Zepheera, who sat on his chest while he lay on his back. She accepted the silent offer without hesitation, and the Doctor was able to sit up without sending Zepheera tumbling. Then she could take her usual perch on his shoulder.

“Any moment now…”

All of the tension from the effort of waking up melted as soon as Zepheera saw the first sliver of sunlight peeking over the horizon.

The Doctor plucked out a pair of sunglasses out of his pocket and balanced it on his shoulder so Zepheera could balance one lens on her lap to protect her eyes from the intensity of the sun without missing out on any of the beauty. Together, they watched the arrival of the sun change the colors of the sky and the clouds, a breathtaking canvas constantly in motion.

Zepheera, careful to not shift the sunglasses enough to cause them to fall, scooted herself closer to the Doctor’s neck. Part of her was grateful that he couldn’t see her tears when they were this close. It was still tough for her to be emotionally vulnerable around someone his size, and she didn’t want him to worry needlessly when he’d made her so happy.

“Thank you for this,” she said, unable to avoid the slight crack of emotion in her voice.

She could hear the smile in his voice as he whispered back, “Anytime.”

Inktober 2018 Day 3

3. Theft – Accusations are made

Still catching up, and still loving series 11 so far! ^^

More 13th Doctor shenanigans

“You’ve totally copied me!”

“I’ve done no such thing!” asserted the newly regenerated Doctor, putting her hands on her hops in an unintentional mimic of her inches-tall companion. She’d started off so excited to be able to see and interact with Zepheera at the borrower’s own scale, until accusations were flung.

With a flat look, Zepheera placed a hand flat on the top of her head and traced a straight line from it to the Doctor’s. Before, whenever Zepheera was ever the same size as previous incarnations of the Time Lord, he’d always ended up a bit taller than Zepheera. This time they were dead even.

The Doctor scoffed. “That’s hardly my f–!”

Zepheera lowered her hand to pinch a short blonde lock between her fingers. The length and style of the Doctor’s new hair wasn’t too different from Zepheera’s other than in color.

The Doctor frowned but batted at Zepheera’s hand. “Coincidence!” she maintained. “Regeneration’s a lottery…”

“You can at least admit to the shirt and the boots, Doctor!” Zepheera gestured to the Doctor’s wardrobe, which she picked out herself and couldn’t possibly blame on the regeneration.

The Doctor opened her mouth to argue, then looked down at herself. Despite Zepheera’s t-shirt and boots being hand made by either herself or others her size and thus being much simpler in design, the Doctor couldn’t deny they were quite similar.

“Well you make it sound like stealing!” she protested, pouting when Zepheera rolled her violet eyes with a chuckle.

Inktober 2018 Day 2

2. Protect

AU: BTaS

The entire bridge shook like it belonged in a
snow globe. Few people maintained their footing as something collided with the
ship and sent it plummeting toward the planet below. The Doctor was not one of
those people.

Sprawled across the trembling floor, he took a
split second to take stock. Though he’d landed hard, he hadn’t sustained any
notable physical injuries.

That wasn’t his main concern.

“Doctor!”

His four inch tall companion, who was perched
on his shoulder before the crash, had been thrown several feet away in the
impact. What was worse, the deepening angle of the falling ship created a slope
that dragged her woefully light body along the smooth floor.

“Zepheera!” Lunging forward, the
Doctor threw his hand out, stretching himself across the floor to close the
distance.

His hand curled protectively as Zepheera slid
into it. Immediately he felt her give him her miniscule weight, the fluttering
of her tiny hands searching for purchase.

The ship lurched again, sending more people
tumbling. The Doctor’s other hand cupped around the first, and right then the
metal of the ceiling groaned.

The Doctor folded himself over his hands to
shield Zepheera as the ceiling came crashing down.

Starting to catch up on these ^^

Inktober 2018 Day 7

7. Kigurumi – The Doctor gets excited.

So…I fell behind. School stuff, mostly. I’ll catch up, I promise, but today DOCTOR WHO CAME BACK! I had to watch it, and I’m so excited for this season and for the 13th Doctor. I had a feeling I’d have to do something with her today. I’m glad it fit so well.

No spoilers for the new episode ahead.

Zepheera sat on a railing outside one of the TARDIS’ many dressing rooms in one of its many wardrobes, waiting for the Doctor to re-emerge. She had no idea why the Doctor was on the lookout for another outfit. There wasn’t anything wrong with the one she had, and besides that, Zepheera could recall the Doctors she’d known had only worn one or two.

Back before he became a she.

An exclamation of delight tugged the borrower out of her thoughts, and Zepheera perked up when the Doctor’s shape returned in the doorway.

It was a very odd shape indeed, and a far cry from the last outfit the Doctor picked. It didn’t seem to have much shape at all, as baggy as the soft material was.

“No,” Zepheera said flatly, ignoring the slight pang of guilt at the sight of the Doctor’s excited grin melting away.

“What? What’s wrong with it?” The Doctor tugged at the plush material, as if to show off how baggy it truly was.

“What is it even supposed to be?”

“Camouflage!” With a bright smile, the Doctor reached back and flipped up the hood that Zepheera hadn’t realized was there. Attached to the top was enough fabric to give it the impression that it was mimicking the appearance of an animal, including a slight protruding snout with felt teeth sticking out. “I’m a big bad wolf!” she announced proudly.

Zepheera frowned and supposed that explained the big white patch all down the Doctor’s front that she could only now assume was meant to represent underbelly fur. “The only place you’d blend in in that is a slumber party.”

The Doctor pouted, first in defeat and then in consideration. “Well, I like it, I’m keeping it on the back burner.” With that, she flipped back the hood and vanished once more in a flash of static-y blonde hair.

“You’re not wearing that out in public!” Zepheera called after her.

In case you’re wondering, here’s the inspiration for this new outfit of the Doctor’s.

G/T Prompts Day 22

anonymous asked:

22 with The Doctor and Zee? plz 🙂 Sorry I can’t spell her name to save my life.

If you’re referring to the Inktober gt prompt list, I’m planning on doing most, hopefully all of those a day at a time during the month of October. But when skimming the list, I had an idea for that particular day that involved people other than Doc and Zepheera, so since you asked so nicely…

22. Cramped

(went with the Tenth Doctor since that’s my go to)

“No way!”

“C’mon!” the Doctor hissed

desperately, glancing over his shoulder. They were coming, and he doubted

they’d be particularly friendly or mindful of his small companion. He needed to

get her out of sight, and she picked now of all times to be stubborn!

“It won’t be for long, I promise.”

Zepheera remained firm and shook her head in

protest, the shallow rise and fall of her chest beneath her tightly crossed

arms the only thing visibly belying her stress. “I’m not going in a

pocket!” she snipped back. “I can’t do anything in there, all

dark and cramped and–!”

“It’s not gonna–!” The Doctor’s

hushed rebuttal was cut short by the chorus of footsteps approaching. He looked

pleadingly at Zepheera. “Sorry. No time for arguing.”

With that he moved the hand holding Zepheera,

fingers curling protectively as she lost balance and fell in a heap in his

palm, and the next thing Zepheera knew she was falling.

Falling had been unexpected. Zepheera actually had

time to yelp before she hit the bottom.

She gave a dazed moan as she maneuvered herself

to lie on her back to take stock of her surroundings. Fabric rose up like

massive walls on either side of her, and there was definitely a seam under her

back. All the makings of a pocket, except this one stretched out much further

than any Zepheera could imagine.

A small sliver of light overhead was the only

indicator of how deep she was compared to her expectations. The opening of the

pocket was still a standard size, and given the distance between it and

Zepheera, it seemed even smaller. She glared at it as she pushed herself up to

sit and, gripping the fabric for stability, pulled herself to her feet. If she

concentrated, she could see the opening moving, and she counted herself lucky

that whatever was going on up there, she wasn’t feeling the full effect of the

Doctor’s movements.

Certainly didn’t stop her from being thoroughly

miffed about the whole situation.

“At least it isn’t cramped,”

Zepheera grumbled as she started to climb her way back up.

I know he’s done this to Rose and Donna ( with no success ), but has The Doctor ever tried lock Zepheera on the TARDIS to keep her out of a dangerous situation?

I wouldn’t rule it out, knowing the Doctor, but Zepheera tends to stick close to him most of the time. If he was determined, he might have to be a little more forceful than usual to get her to stay in the TARDIS without him. Those two can be quite stubborn with one another.

Edit: Given that she’s four and a half inches tall, the Doctor can be quite protective of Zepheera. It depends on the situation whether or not that protectiveness manifests as him keeping her close or keeping her shut away, safe in the TARDIS.

Borrowed Magic Excerpt

The Doctor simply smiled at her. “It’s alright,” he said softly, a phrase the creature was quickly becoming familiar with. With slow, careful movements, he approached her with a gentle hand extended for her to sniff. Neither his scent or his demeanor raised any major red flags for the creature, so she relaxed a hair. That was all the Doctor needed.

“I’m the Doctor,” he introduced himself, looking the dragon straight in the eye. “And I’m gonna take you home.”

Update Part 1

So it’s been a while since I’ve done much of anything on this blog ^^; School had consumed pretty much my entire existence so I’ve been behind on prompts and shirking the Zepheera-Visions, and I’ve also gotten myself deeply involved with the @brothersapart universe.

But that’s not all I’ve been up to.

Introducing Borrowed Magic, my first co-written AU in the BTaS universe!

image

Art © @lotminx [Deviantart] a lovely commission of the babs

@neonthewrite has lent me her Bowman to join in the shenanigans of my borrower OC Zepheera and the Tenth Doctor in my crossover series Borrowed Time and Space. Fittingly enough, we’ve named this AU Borrowed Magic.

I’ve poked at ideas for AUs of BTaS before, mostly to allow for interactions with more of the Tenth Doctor’s companions, but this one has the potential for so much fun. Not only is Bowman a spitfire of a sassball, but it’s interesting to throw yet another non-human companion into the mix! His life in Wellwood has in no way prepared him for travel in time and space, and it doesn’t help that he’s the youngest and the smallest on board (due to the slight scale difference, Zepheera ends up a whole half-inch taller than the sprite, much to his annoyance).

This is a young AU, but Neon and I do have plans in store for these dorks. I’ll start posting excerpts semi-regularly, and we’ll take any questions involving the AU!

For now, here’s a sneak peek at our first completed story!

“Zepheera, answer me!”

Who is Zepheera?

The insistent call deepened the concerned frown on Bowman’s face. He watched the tall man with hardly-blinking eyes for a moment before registering that there could be another human out there. That made his wings fan open and closed as he scanned the forest for another giant nearby.

He was thinking he might have to fly a short distance to find another giant crashing around in the woods. Keeping track of all intruders was imperative for the safety of the village. Bowman turned, aiming to look behind himself first.

He did a double take at the sight of someone on the branch with him.

“Spirit’s dance!” he yelped, flinching backwards. He stumbled off the end of the branch, but his wings caught him easily, flaring open and pulling him back up to hover level with one of the strangest people he’d ever seen. They had skin that looked a bit pale compared to his own, but not as pale as the tall human a distance away. Most important was the lack of any sort of wings on their back, despite otherwise being sprite-sized.

“What … who are you?!”

Look out for Part 2 of this update, coming soon

Zepheera-Vision — Try The Chips

Zepheera was utterly exhausted.

While technically her companions did all the running from the Master’s threats, the four and a half inch tall woman was in an equal state of adrenaline, hanging on tight to her Time Lord’s collar in order to not be thrown off in all the chaos.

Hours later, she sat on Captain Jack Harkness’ shoulder, mostly so she could speak more directly to the Doctor for once. They had finally reached a place of safety, and the captain just returned with hastily scavenged food, a few bags of chips.

Jack lifted a chip to his shoulder, smirking at the pun while Zepheera took it. She eyed it suspiciously; she didn’t often have access to fried food, and when she did it was usually old and mushy and a real hassle for a borrower to eat.

When she expressed her concern, the Doctor vouched for the chips. “Actually, they’re not bad,” he said, munching on another. “Go on, give it a try.”

With a thoughtful frown at the chip in her lap, nearly tall enough to reach Zepheera’s shoulder, she gave a shrug and broke off a small portion of the tip. If she didn’t like it after all, she could always give whatever she didn’t finish to one of the humans.

She gave it a small nibble, and soon found herself finishing her portion, breaking off another piece for seconds.
